Meeting with my daughter (part 2 of 4)

Assallamualaikum...

When my daughter finished telling me about her decision of not wanting to take up the offer, I revealed to her  my analysis of the possible reasons that could have made her come to that decision.

1. It could be due to her bad experience when she once resigned from the current company last year and tried to work in another company. She really did not come close to her current standing she had in the current company when she went over to work in the next company.

But the reason she left the first time was totally different from the current situation. My daughter left because she had gone into depression many times due to the amount of stress she had to face. Even then she did hit a few contracts for the company and when she left them for about 9 months, the company did not hit any tenders.

When she came back, she hit another high profile tender for the company...Of course now the boss treat her well and that brings me to another point...

2. The boss is playing the margin game with her, giving her just enough pressure and monetary awards to scramble her mind so that it can make her indecisive and at last resign to the fact that she is getting what she wants from the company. Giving her false hopes and false sense of authority in the company. Continuously telling her stories of failures in the business. Undermining her self-esteem whenever he sees that she is gaining confidence in the job.

I cannot give her any good and convincing advice to counter what her boss has been feeding her with so at last we decided to Sholat Isytiharah together this Thursday. I told her, I will definitely accept the decision given by Allah after we have performed the Sholat...

Meeting with my daughter (part 1 of 4)

Assallamualaikum...

I was at home when my daughter messaged me that she wanted to discuss something when she reached home last night. I was quite apprehensive about the thing she was going to bring up but I will not be a pessimist this time around and keep an open mind about this.

As usual she would reach home very late from work especially now that her company is involved in getting responses for their flat upgrading works; last night was no exception either. She finally reached home just after the program "Road to Hajj" ended at the Bio channel.

After she had freshened up, we sat at the living hall and started the discussion.

My daughter went straight to the point and told me that the firm that was head-hunting her contacted again to get her over to their company. She flat out told me that she do not want to consider the offer at all. I held back my judgement and listened to what she had to say. In the end she said that her gut feeling made her come to that decision and she reminded me that I often told her to trust her instincts if ever this kind of situation arises...

Cancelled appointment

Assallamualaikum...

I have just cancelled my appointment with my friend the property agent. I have gone through the list and I found out that there is not much things that he and me can benefit from the meeting at this moment. Of course I will engage him again when the moment is right and I got something concrete for him but now is really too pre-mature for this to happen.

I need to do this more often that is come out with a checklist of the things I need to do and sleep over it. If the morning after brings with it some uneasy feeling than I should take heed of it, I got to go with my gut feeling and this morning I felt that there is nothing solid to discuss and we would waste each other's time if I were to proceed with the meeting...

Just receive a great news !!!

Assallamualaikum...

Yes... out of the blues... Sister Nooraini from Masjid Haji Mohd Salleh sent me an SMS reminder to sell my Red Bean Pau at the Masjid this Sunday for the Korban participants. She advised me not to sell the pau in its fully cooked state but to sell it in its frozen state... The following are the things I should do.

1. Get a Styrofoam box big enough to put in at least 20 packets of pau.

2. Get a piece of dry ice to keep the box cold enough to last at least for 9 hours ( 8 am to 5 pm)

3. Should I buy the electric steamer for this event ? I am not going to sell any of the cooked pau. They will just be samples for people to taste or perhaps I will use it to provide as snacks for the people who come and perform the korban.... Need your input here if possible :)

Alhamdulillah... I am very thankful to Allah for all the blessings that HE has bestowed upon me... I am not worthy of YOUR blessings but I am nothing without YOUR blessings.... Syukran Jazilan

Collaboration List

Assallamualaikum...

I made an appointment to meet a friend who is a property agent tomorrow and now I have got to organize my thoughts about what are the things that I should discuss with him to get the most out of the meeting. If I cannot come up with a reasonable list of things, perhaps I should just postpone the meeting until something solid can be put on the table... Well, here are the things I want to get out of the meeting.

1. The viability of the nature of business that I am going to set up with my daughter.

2. Is there any niche in the market that I can capitalize on with the resources that I have now.

3. the net profit I can get by downgrading to a 3-room flat.

4. Is there any opportunity of collaboration, perhaps we can act as a general contractor for some of his clientele of course he will get a cut from the profit...

I am doing this with the objective of enriching everyone that is willing to collaborate. I will definitely want to work with people who are not only effective, productive but also one of my friends. However, yes the trap of working with friends is I will not be able to fire them if they fall short of my expectations and I am well aware of it...

I may be able to say that I will be able to make that crucial decision when the need arises but ideally we would part ways in a manner that is agreeable between both parties. In the end what matters is the bottomline of the company and hopefully the friendship stays intact. In the case the friendship breaks... perhaps it was not such a good friendship to start out with...

Let's get back to the topic...

Assallamualaikum...

I am thinking... why should I resign from my job and join my daughter when she decides to set up her business ? I do not know a thing about her industry except for a layman view of the process which is definitely not vital for the survival of the company. Might as well we employ someone that can help directly like an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, perhaps those at entry level candidate that we can groom and assist my daughter directly taking away the daily grind of the job while Yana (my daughter) goes into managing the business daily activities.

Of course I will take on the job as much as possible and be as effective as I can, perhaps along the line of admin, research and development areas of the company. I do not have to draw any salary from the company at all, since I still hold my current job.

Sending off my eldest brother ...

Assallamualaikum...

I am so proud of my eldest brother Aziz bin Jabal. He and his wife are performing Haji this year. We sent them off yesterday, 31st October 2011 at Changi Airport Terminal 3. As per normal, this brother of mine always has an air of confidence around him and probably he needs it because there will be no official or very minimum help from the service provider...

May my brother Aziz and his wife Sawiyah be granted with Haji Mabrur from YOU, ALLAH.... and YOU assist, guide and care for the both of them so that no harm will come upon them and bring them home safe and sound so that they can continue to inspire the rest of us here... Amin Amin Ya Rabbal 'Alamin...
